Honors Concert

Honors Concert. The St. Cloud Symphony presents a formal honors concert at the Paramount for a selected group of competitors. The honors concert receives billing as part of our concert series; we advertise the program in our season brochure. The selected competitors have an opportunity to display their musicianship in a formal concert atmosphere. The concert is well attended. The judges determine the participants in the honors concert by selecting participants whose musicianship displays a readiness for the formal concert setting. The participants in the honors concert are not ranked, they are selected because the judges have decided that their performances merit the honor of the concert setting. This year, participants selected for the honors concert will perform at the Ruth Gant Recital Hall, February 21, 2007 at 7:00 PM.

Classics for Kids

The goal of Classics for Kids is simple: to expose every fourth-grade child in St. Cloud, Sartell and Sauk Rapids to classical music. Classics for Kids brings groups of musicians and their instruments into area classrooms (October to March) and allows students to interact on a personal level with performing musicians. The final event is an orchestra performance for over 1,400 students.

Classics for Kids exposes young people to the joys of music at the perfect time--when they might be making the decision to play an instrument--in an effort to give them a life-long hobby and means of self-expression. Students participate in this program at no cost. The only cost to schools is the expense of bussing students to the percussion event and the Classics for Kids Concert.

Lemonade Camp

Application | Recommendation Letter | Information Sheet & Schedule

The SCSO proudly sponsors the annual Lemonade Camp for strings students. In addition to working with William Schrickel, SCSO Music Director, students will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform with professional musicians. This three-day experience culminates with students performing alongside SCSO members at the Lemonade Concert.

Eligibility: String students who have completed Grade 7-12.

Location: The Paramount Theatre (camp and rehearsals); Lemonade Concert is on the Atwood Mall of St. Cloud State University

Cost: $100 per student (scholarships may be available)

Please complete and submit the application form. In addition, we require two letters of recommendation from different music teachers (school orchestra teacher and private lesson teacher are recommended). Teachers should address the student’s musical ability and leadership qualities.

This camp is limited to 20 students. Students will be selected on a first-come first-served basis and on teacher recommendations.
